Welcome to Rowan class
We are year 3 and 4 (age 7-9yrs) and love learning. We have a new topic each term that makes our learning engaging and exciting right across the Curriculum. Whether we are investigating in maths, or in topic related writing activities, we try our hardest and challenge ourselves and have fun at the same time. Feel free to come and see us any time to find out what we do and how we learn.
Reading is an important skill that needs to be supported at home. We encourage parents and carers to be listening to your child read at least fives times per week. Please write in the reading record book noting the date, the page they read to and any comment you wish to make.
Homework is sent home every Wednesday. Please feel free to support your child with their home learning in any way you can. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss them with the class teacher. Weekly home work should be handed in every Monday which gives us time to mark it and talk it through with the children. We also like to challenge the children with their own holiday research project. This will be based on the termly topic and given to the children in the last week of each term.
Children are provided with weekly spellings at the beginning of term and are also on the website under our class page. These spellings are based on the National Curriculum spelling lists and rules for Year 3 & 4.
Whilst support and teaching on these focus words is given to the children in school, we definitely encourage support and practice of these spellings at home as well. We have a spelling test every Thursday (note that from parental feedback this has been changed from Tuesdays).
Children You may already be aware that all Year 4 children nationally will be tested on their times tables starting in June 2020. We practice times tables each day to ensure that the children are fully prepared. They will also be able to practice using the on-line system from April 2020.
We will be having two hours of PE every week in Rowan Class. These are timetabled for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. It is really important that your child has a complete PE kit in school.
If you have any time during school hours and would like to come in to help us with reading or other school work, we would love to hear from you!
